ElGordo is drawn every year on December 22nd and is broadcast live on TV and online. The ElGordo lottery draw starts live at 9am - 09:00 (CET time).

The ElGordo draw takes place at the Teatro Real (Royal Theatre) located in Madrid, Spain.
On the stage at the front of the theatre are two spherical cages which hold the small wooden balls that will be drawn.
The larger of the two spheres is filled with 100,000 small wooden balls each with its own unique 5 digit number ranging from 00000 all the way up to 99999. The large sphere determines which ticket numbers will win prizes. The smaller of the two spheres is filled with 1807 balls each with an inscription of a prize amount.
Over the course of the drawing, two children from the San Ildefonso School draw each and every ball from the smaller sphere. It is drawn individually and matched to a number simultaneously drawn from the large sphere containing ticket numbers by two children from the San Ildefonso School. There are 40 children in total, each taking turns in pairs drawing the numbers.
As each winning number and corresponding prize amount are chosen, the children sing out the results, one sings the number, the other sings the prize.
When larger prizes are drawn, the theatre fills with applause for the children as they display the winning number and the winning amount across the stage.
ElGordo tickets are limited and consist of 100,000 five-digit codes ranging from 00000-99999. Each ticket is printed in 50 copies and divided into 10 shares - players can purchase individual shares or an entire ticket.

The philosophy of the game is based on distributing the maximum number of prizes to the players, so the player has many more opportunities to win a consolation prize, while being able to qualify for a grand prize. The total prize pool is broken down into prize ‘tiers’ and depending on the size of the prize depends on how many prizes there are in that tier. Some Huge Spanish 6/49 Jackpots include:
The Spanish 6/49 is one of the most popular lottery games in Spain. Regular draws are held at 9.30pm (GMT+1) every Thursday and Saturday.
You need six winning numbers from a drum of 1-49 and the Reintegro, chosen from a guess range from 0-9, to take home the jackpot.
The Spanish 6/49 was begun by royal initiative, suggested by Carlos III's Minister for Tax, the Marques of Esquilache to raise funds for the Spanish treasury in 1763. When it began, the game featured 90 numbers, of which five would be selected at random.
In 1812 the Spanish 6/49 fell out of favour with players and was discontinued in 1862. The game was eventually re-introduced in 1985 under the operation of Loterias y Apuestas del Estado, part of the Spanish Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations. When the game was reintroduced the format also changed to the 6/49 lottery game we play today.
To play the Spanish 6/49 choose 6 standard numbers from 1 – 49 and 1 ‘Reintegro Number’ from 0 - 9.
The ‘Reintegro Number’ can be the same as any of the standard numbers selected. You can select these numbers yourself by clicking the “PICK MY OWN NUMBERS” button or choose from one of our Quickpick options for a fully random set of numbers on the Play Spanish 6/49 page.
The Spanish 6/49 offers 7 ways to win.
To take home the massive jackpot prize you’ll need six winning numbers from a drum of 1-49 and the Reintegro, chosen from a guess range from 0-9, to take home the jackpot.
As well as the Reintegro there is also a bonus ball. This is drawn after the six main numbers from the same barrel of 49 and will enable players who match five numbers to win a larger prize.
